'Don't spend any money on toilets'
WITH regard to the article "Villagers have a say on the future of embarrassing loos", The Citizen, January 23, 2013.
The gents' toilet was recently refurbished even though the original was quite adequate. The stainless steel urinal was green in places and just needed a bit of elbow grease and the whole place the attention of someone who cared enough to keep it clean. The tiles by the door have been broken for months and there never seems to be a light in the 'trap'. The people who should be embarrassed are those who accept £4,000 a year to keep it in that state and Painswick Parish Council for not checking it regularly.

insulting: St Mary's Street public toilets.
As for spending £10,000 on the toilets to keep them closed during the winter, speaking for an ageing population, I don't know about you but my bladder is a lot more active during the winter months.
The gents' toilet is only about three metres square, what on earth can they find to spend £30,000 on?

The idea of selling the property is an insult to the man who gave it in the first place and is bound to discourage anyone else from making similar gestures in the future.
