KEITH DOWNING has backed Dean Sinclair to make a big

impression during his second loan spell with Cheltenham

Town.

The midfielder has re-joined the Robins for an initial

month's loan from Coca-Cola Championship club Charlton

Athletic.

Sinclair, 23, was Downing's first signing as Cheltenham boss

last October.

He made 14 appearances in a two-and-a-half month spell,

scoring twice and playing an important part in the club's

battle against relegation from League One.

Sinclair, who started his career at Norwich City before a

successful spell with Barnet, sustained a knee injury in

Cheltenham's Boxing Day defeat at Swansea City and returned to

parent club Charlton to rehabilitate.

He will be available for the Robins' next six matches,

including the Carling Cup second round tie against Stoke City

in a week's time.

With David Bird doubtful for Saturday's trip to Oldham

Athletic due to an ankle problem, Ben Gill suspended and John

Finnigan still slowly recovering from a foot operation,

Sinclair's arrival is timely.

"Dean had a big effect on our season last year and I would

be delighted if he could make a similar contribution this

time," Downing said.

"The midfield have done well, but we have a few out and they

need support."

Downing enquired about taking Sinclair on loan for six

months, but he is keen to return to the Valley and fight for

first team recognition.

"He is only prepared to do a month at present because he

wants to get into the squad at Charlton this season, but we

will continue to look at it," Downing said.
