More motorists flouting drink driving laws have been arrested as police continue their summer crackdown.

Police have announced 16 arrests made in the second week of their annual campaign bringing the total number of arrests so far to 30.

Acting Inspector Keith Fagan, said the consequences would be severe for anyone caught driving under the influence.

He said: "They are all facing a minimum 12 month driving ban, a criminal record, up to six months in prison and a fine of up to £5,000.

"There may also be further financial or social consequences, such as losing their job or relationship."

The campaign started on June 1 with increased traffic patrols and road side checks on drivers.

Among those arrested in the second week was a 20-year-old Innsworth woman, pulled over at 3am on June 12 in Delta Way, Brockworth.

She will appear before Cheltenham magistrates on June 29 charged with drink driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance.

A 45-year-old Cinderford man was also arrested in Buckshaft Road, Cinderford, at approximately 8pm on June 12.

He has been charged with drink driving and will appear before Gloucester magistrates on June 24.

A Gloucester man, 32, was arrested in Eastgate Street on June 14.

He will appear before Gloucester Magistrates on June 30 charged with drink driving and driving without insurance.

Acting Insp Fagan added: "We would advise anyone planning on driving not to drink any alcohol at all, as research shows that even one drink can impair your driving – motorists just shouldn't take the risk."

He also said drivers should take measures to make sure they have an alternative way of getting home if they are drinking.

"If you are going out for a drink this summer then plan ahead to make sure you can get home safely and without having to drive yourself," he said.

"Take simple steps such as booking a taxi, having a designated driver in your group of friends or arranging overnight accommodation.

"I'd also urge the public not to get into a vehicle if you think the driver has been drinking."

Anyone suspected of drink driving can be reported to police by calling 0845 090 1234 or Crimestoppers on 0800 111 555.

If the suspected drink-driver is driving at the time, police are urging members of the public to report it as a matter of emergency by calling 999.

The drink drive campaign is running until June 30 and is being supported by the Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership.

“I think there should be a zero tolerance policy- people will always try to get away with it and say they have only had one- it would be better if they knew that no alcohol was allowed when driving”

“I can't believe so many people are willing to drink and drive as well as the amount of people who take drugs and drive. It is terrible!”

“Why is only the gloucester driver charged with no insurance.
Do all the others have insurance that covers them for driving while over the limit.”
