A red car occupied by people in their 50s or 60s and with luggage in the back, collided with the boy.

The driver stopped briefly before carrying on. A silver car behind the red car also stopped and now police are appealing for people in either of these cars to come forward.

The boy was treated for cuts and bruises at Cheltenham General Hospital.

Anyone with any information on the incident should call 101, quoting incident 254 of September 15.

“bonzaharris1 - yes, failing to stop at the scene of an accident is a criminal offence. As is failing to report an accident (must be done within 24 hours). So presumably two offences committed at the very least. For each offence, the potential punishments are between 5 & 10 penalty points or a disqualification, a fine of up to £5,000 or up to six months imprisonment.

And you have to wonder how many more offences were being committed at the time, which might explain why the driver left the scene. Might have been none, might have been half a dozen.”

“A more exact description of the location would be a good idea as well. The Old Gloucester Road is quite long I think.”

“As you say Matt, the stopped so they knew that they had hit something. If by some chance they were not sure on what they had hit, then they should have got out of their car and checked to see what they had hit, but I think you would have to be pretty blind not to see that it was a child. It seemsto be a case of leaving the scene of an accident, which as far a I am aware is a criminal offence. I am lost for words that people would knock down and hit a 7 year old child, and then drive off without calling him an ambulance and staying with him until the ambulance arrived. Is their no care and compassion in some peoples hearts. I hope they are traced and a rather heavy book is thrown at them.”

“Another hit & run. Driver briefly stopped, so there seems to be little doubt that he/she knew they'd hit the young lad, but still then drove off. The others in the car with him/her were also presumably aware of what had occurred, if only after asking the driver why they'd just "briefly" stopped.

This driver needs to be identified and dealt with, as necessary. If they're prepared to leave the scene of an incident where a 7-year-old has been hit, what else are they prepared to get away with whilst behind the wheel of a car?

Hope the young lad soon recovers from his ordeal (expect his parents are in shock, too). As to why a 7-year-old was in a position to be struck by a passing car (assuming the car was on the road, and not on the pavement) is another issue. But that doesn't excuse the driver from leaving the scene, being apparently aware of what had just happened.”
