ECHO COMMENT: Great message for long-term jobless
WE were delighted to celebrate the letting of more shops in Cheltenham’s Winchcombe Street.
And the sad demise of national names with town centre shops - Jessops, HMV and Blockbuster - won’t stop us continuing to put our faith in local retailers.
the news that one of the new boys - Tangberry’s cafe - is providing work for 10 local people who were unemployed adds to the positive feel at this difficult time.
Their new boss Paul Phillips puts it this way: “We’ve got a great group of staff raring to go.”

“Good news about Winchcomb Street (the southern half anyway). Now we need to attract development of the northern half: a decent (i.e. inclusive) flagship nightclub into the former Odeon, development of the derelict (listed) building next to it, reopening of the Axiom and a worthy replacement for Blockbuster now its future is looking bleak.
And can someone please tear down the eyesore canopy over the shops in Albion Street before it falls and injures someone?
Shame about HMV though. Probably means Now 83 was the last of the series. Long live independent record stores.”
