THERE are so many factors to take into account when trying to decide on whether a speed limit is correct for a particular road in Gloucestershire.

Questions were raised on why unrealistic limits seem to be in place on Cleeve Hill after a serious accident left a pensioner dead.

Police analysis in the area has found that most drivers actually stick to the speed limit but that hasn’t satisfied locals who can point to a string of incidents over the years.

It is reassuring to know that Gloucestershire Highways do regularly undertake a review of limits on all A and B roads, with the last just two years ago.

But the amount of changes it produced were clearly minimal and it means concerned communities clearly have much to do to bring about change.

At least Gloucestershire Highways are helping by laying down some useful tips on how you can highlight the issue.

In the two panels we publish today, it’s clear that it’s a long process and not one that is guaranteed to produce a result.

But if the commitment is there, and you’re prepared to produce the evidence, your community does have a chance to make its voice heard.

    “Surely what you want to do is reduce accidents? Part of that is having the right speed limit. Choose one thats too low do you become complacent? Its 30mph limit its safe along here or nNo speed limit here better take care.
