ECHO COMMENT: On the right line with Cheltenham pub map
The first thing many will do on seeing our pub “tube map” today is to try to find a favourite pub that is missing.
But don’t be too hard on Joan Coats if you find one.
Because what his “Pub Stops of Cheltenham” illustrates is just how many are still surviving despite the problems affecting the licence trade generally.
We launched our “Save our Pubs” campaign because we were concerned licensees were not getting the support they needed from either pub cos or the Government.

And what our feature today shows is just how much there is to save.
Whichever way you look at the map, if you live in Cheltenham there is still a pub near you. If you’ve not popped in for a few years, the message from the Campaign for Real Ale is that you’ll get a warm welcome.
Encouragingly, Gloucestershire spokesman Martyn Herbert is positive about the survival prospects of the more traditional pubs.
One piece of advice though. Don’t try to tackle all the pubs on one of John’s lines at once.
The black line alone - the closest thing to the Piccadilly line on the real tube - has 19. Take your time, and hopefully you’ll find a new local to call your own.

“It looks a good idea but on what i saw Leckhampton seems to have moved and Charlton Kings has been wiped off the map and down the Tube.”

“I think this is an excellent way of promoting the location of pubs still open in the Cheltenham area especially in these difficult financial times. Perhaps a similar display of hotels & restaurants could follow on similar lines---no pun intended.”
