Earl's and Co celebrates first birthday with lavish bash
A few months ago we brought you Earl’s & Co. and it’s owner, Jessica Earl.
Earl’s & Co. is a Barbers come Whisky Bar and a Champagne Nail & Beauty Bar. It is the first of its kind in the UK and Jessica chose Cheltenham because she loved the town so much.
Jessica spoke about the unique natuere of the business; Richard Branson featuring her as a young entrepreneur and the company's future expansion plans.
Now we catch up with her and find out how the first year in business has been:
Jessica, you’ve had a busy month haven’t you? What has been going on at Earl’s.
It has been very busy! August marked the first year for us and we wanted to mark the occasion and thank our customers. So at a rather elaborate event on 17th August we greeted over 280 customers to a red carpeted cocktail party. There was a Champagne reception, Whisky Tastings and Cocktails in the Bar, free Hot Towel Wet Shaves for gents in the Barbers and Champagne Cocktails upstairs whilst offering free Manicures to the ladies . It was a huge success and everyone really enjoyed it! It was surreal to think only a year earlier we were begging people to come in off the street!
You mentioned in earlier interviews that Richard Branson has offered you advice, was he able to make it to the event?
Yes, he and Virgin have been great supporters and definitely a brand that we really look up to. I have written a blog for Virgin.com , talking about Year One that went online on the 17th, it’s great to be associated with such a household name. Richard didn’t make the party but we did have some gorgeous Virgin Girls turn up in their uniform which definitely cheered everyone up!
When you opened it was clear Earl’s & Co. was setting itself apart from other salons, is that still the case?
I think our approach is different, I’ve never worked in a ‘normal’ salon so there isn’t anything about Earl’s & Co. that is ‘normal’. It has found a balance between Luxurious and Comfortable; Classic without being gimmicky, that kind of thing! Some say we go over and above, I think we just give clients what they want. A glass of Champagne with their Manicure, and a Shoe shine and whisky with their haircut. It makes it special and enjoyable; which is what our service industry should be! We started off just offering Mani’s & Pedi’s and Shaves & Haircuts, now our menu is huge! The demand was too big to ignore! We now offer Waxing, Massage, Threading, Facials, Eyelash Extensions, St Tropez, Bride & Groom parties etc etc. It’s growing everyday! In truth, I love it! It’s like a one-stop-shop of grooming!
What have you got planned now?
Our online shop has been keeping us very busy so there will of course be some fun things coming up on there. We also have an Earl’s for Him and an Earl’s for her Blog which is designed and produced by our Media Consultant, Jamie. It is very entertaining and we have had a great response on FB and Twitter.
But after such a great Birthday Party we have decided to do it all over again with a Christmas Party so that will keep us busy until December!
