I WRITE regarding the story "Traffic calming problem not buses" (Echo, August 11) and feel compelled to agree it is that which needs to be addressed and unfair to blame buses.

As a local, I feel the most probable cause for any problem is more in line with the layout combined with parking, pedestrians including elderly who cross where and when and reckless car drives.

For example, I witnessed two local buses parked alongside The Anchor.

Behind a motorist, realising there was no room for manoeuvre, blows the horn then takes a wide turn to the right making exit via the wrong side of the traffic islands. The close proximity of those two islands plus the widened pavement are the most ridiculous of all. I sympathise with all bus drivers having to shunt in and out on a daily basis, especially when exiting from Boots.

I, for one, hope Stagecoach is not removed from the High Street. They are a great asset to both Tewkesbury and surrounds, providing an excellent and reliable service, and hope they have the support so well deserved to keep it that way.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say a public thank you to the driver of No 41 leaving Cheltenham on the afternoon of Saturday, September 1. Leaving the fabric store, I approached the main road only to find the bus at the traffic lights.

Although disappointed, I felt being so far away it would have to be a miss.

The kind, considerate driver realised and pulled in at the designated area by The Range and waited, even though there was no one to get on or off.

What a gem. It would be nice if this driver is located and thanked for the kindness shown.

A Matthew, Tewkesbury

    “Good Afternoon
I would like to say it is a pleasure to read comment such kind comments in regards to one of our drivers. I would like to pass your thanks on to our driver and was wondering if you could advise what time you caught the bus?
