Eddie The Eagle Edwards makes a Splash! in his hometown of Cheltenham

EDDIE ‘The Eagle’ Edwards made a triumphant return to Cheltenham today less than a week after he was crowned champion of celebrity-diving show Splash!

The 49-year-old who lives near Stroud fought off competition from Linda Barker and Jake Canuso to claim the title in last Saturday’s show.

Ski-jumper Eddie, who won the hearts of Britain when he took part in the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988, was visiting the town to meet the cast of new production, Fly Eddie Fly!

The show, which will take place at Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre from February 19, centres on Eddie’s career including the infamous moment he leapt from a 90 foot ski-jump.
