Gloucester City's Darren Edwards looks to boss it in the office with FA Cup victory

IF GLOUCESTER City stage an FA Cup upset against Leyton Orient on Sunday, it could make for an awkward Monday morning in the office for star striker Darren Edwards.

Edwards works as a business account manager for Green Compliance in Bristol, a company whose chief executive is on the Orient board.

And while the 32-year-old striker is hoping to see a number of his work-mates in the Whaddon Road crowd on Sunday (3pm), Edwards is aware his boss won't be cheering him on.

But having only reached the first round proper once in his football career Edwards is relishing the chance to play against the League One strugglers.

He said: "I did send him an email after the draw and he replied, saying he was sorry our cup run wouldn't be very long this year!

"I know how tough it is to get this far, it's only the second time I've got here and I've been playing for 14 or 15 years.

"It's a big deal and getting a big draw is all part of it.

"When I was watching the draw there were a lot of teams from our level still in it and I thought we'd end up with a tie like a league game.

"It's good to get a League side like Leyton Orient although an away tie would've been nice as it's good to go to new grounds."

Although Orient are languishing at the bottom of League One, Edwards is in no doubt that it will be a tough game against seasoned full-time professionals.

He said: "It will be a big test, the form book goes out the window in the Cup. Their fitness, quality and strength will be a challenge.

"We've beaten full-time teams in our league, like Stalybridge Celtic, but this will be different.

"We've just got to enjoy ourselves and take advantage wherever we can."

Although he scored the crucial goal in the fourth qualifying round tie against Chippenham Town, Edwards admits he's yet to find his best form this season.

But after netting again in Saturday's 3-0 win against Hinckley United, the former Bath City striker is beginning to find form at the crucial moment.

He said: "It's been a slow start for me but its starting to pick up. I feel fitter and good within myself, I didn't have the best pre-season and its taken a while.

"I just want to improve and score goals and hopefully that will continue."
