Elderly driver was airlifted to hospital following A40 collision
AN elderly man suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital following collision between three vehicles.
The incident happened at around 3.45pm on the A40 between Longford and Over, close to the Longford roundabout yesterday.
All three emergency services attended the collision, which involved a silver Honda Jazz, black Ford Focus and green Ford Focus.
The driver of the Honda Jazz, a 76-year-old local man, was initially treated at the scene before being flown by air ambulance to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with life threatening injuries.
These were later reassessed and described as serious.
The other motorists suffered minor injuries.
The road was closed for four hours while a full investigation took place and the vehicles were recovered.
Anyone who witnessed the collision but has not yet spoken to police is urged to call 101, quoting incident 272 of September 25.
