Actress, model and wearer of 'THAT' dress, Elizabeth Hurley, has joined a Twitter campaign to help in the search for a missing Jack Russell terrier.

Since Smudge's disappearance on Tuesday, his desperate owner, James Buse of Cirencester, has blitzed the online social networking service with tweets in a bid to help find his much-loved pet.

Smudge - a tan and white, wire-haired Jack Russell terrier - went missing at around lunchtime on Tuesday from Rectory Farm showjumping arena at Duntisbourne Abbots, Cirencester.

James has tweeted dozens of organisations, newspapers, friends and celebrities with the message: "Help @busey290889 #findsmudge their missing dog smudge in the Cirencester area Please RT #findsmudge."

Among the many celebrities James has tweeted are Simon Pegg, Ricky Gervais, Liam Neeson, Philip Schofield and even Liz's fiancé, Shane Warne.

But the actress, who lives in nearby Ampney Knowle, is the only celebrity tweeter to have responded so far, when she retweeted James's plea yesterday afternoon.

However, dozens of non-celebs have joined in the online search for Smudge by retweeting James's plea and adding their own tweets.

One of the latest messages, posted by countryside and  rural pursuits photographer, Kay Thompson, reads: "It is now looking like Smudge was taken so he could be anywhere! Please keep your eyes peeled and RT #FINDSMUDGE."
