Engineer to look traffic light fault
AN ENGINEER was due to inspect a pedestrian crossing in Cheltenham yesterday.
It is understood the traffic lights at the crossing in Evesham Road have not been working for days.
It was due to be looked at by an engineer yesterday, Gloucestershire Highways said, as they had been unaware of any problem.

“"...not been working for days". Well, that's nice & clear then. 3 days, a week, 14 days...??? Guess GH don't know, as they were apparently unaware of the problem, although somebody obviously told them at some point.
OK, it's not a set of traffic lights on a major cross-roads, but these lights are an important pedestrian safety feature, on a stretch of road where there has been more than one fatally in recent years. Do GH not have regular inspections of such installations, or a system set up where other agencies (i.e. the police, or CBC refuse collectors, who must pass through here daily) can report issues as & when they see them?
Actually, GH clearly don't inspect reinstatement works by the utility companies, so why should we expect them to inspect traffic lights / pedestrian crossing...???
Oh, and why are TiG reporting this today, when the engineer was due to look at the crossing yesterday?
Bit of a shambles all round, really.”

“If Gloucestershire highways got off thier backsides and went out and checked the opperation of traffic lights and crossings as they should then maybe they would know whats working correctly and whats not and maybe the traffic flow could then be improved also.”
