They will face their counterparts from Scotland, Ireland and Wales at the Welsh National Tennis Centre in Cardiff.

Evans, ranked third in Great Britain in the Over-55 age group, said: "When you play sport you want to win, but most of all you want to play for your country. When you get to my age you think you're chances of playing for England have gone, so this is a dream come true for me. Since I was told it's taken a while to sink in.

"My fitness coach Chris Paget has made a big difference to me.

"I was doing okay but working with him has helped me play at this level."

Evans reached the semi-final of the National Veterans' Grass-court Championships at Wimbledon last year.

His achievements so far in 2012 include winning an indoor tournament in Bristol and reaching the last four of the Scottish Veterans' Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

Evans is relishing the opportunity to test himself on the international stage in England colours and enjoy the experience.

"I've been playing veterans' tennis for the last three years and I've made some fantastic friends," he said.

"The atmosphere is always brilliant and while it's deadly serious on court, everyone gets on off it."

East Glos have been named Veterans' Club of the Year for 2011 by Vets Tennis GB.
