A former boxer who raped a man to 'humiliate and punish him' for falling out with his sister has been jailed for 12 years.

John Cadogan, 26, raped his victim in revenge for arguing with his sister in a nightclub.

He pounced on his victim as he walked home from a party.

Cadogan then brutally raped him before warning: ''If you do anything about this, ten people will come after you. You won't be able to live your life again.''

Sentencing him to 12 years imprisonment at Bristol Crown Court today, Judge Martin Picton said: ''There was very gratuitous violence.

''Your victim posed you no physical threat. It was a sustained attack in that you punched your victim in the face then dragged him some distance before anally raping him.

''You did not use a condom, and that was an aggravating factor. You chose to treat him as you did because of his sexual orientation.

''The probation officer suggests you pose a high risk to society. You obviously have great difficulty controlling your temper. Your previous convictions are aggravating factors.''

Judge Picton added: ''I sentence you to 12 years imprisonment, of which you will serve half.

''You will also be placed on an extended license for three years, and we will manage your reintroduction to the community with great care.''

Cadogan, of Blakeney, was also ordered to sign the sex offender's register for life.

The court heard the former boxer was convicted of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm in 2007, and served a sentence of 12 months imprisonment.
