AN ex-pat who grew up in Australia has been researching his family heritage in Gloucester after his father recently died.

James Phillips died earlier this month. Now his son, also called James, is looking into the family history of running grocery stores in Coney Hill and Elmbridge Road.

The family upped sticks and moved to Australia in the 1960s after three generations of running grocery stores in Gloucester.

"We had a store called J W Phillips Family Grocer and then J W Phillips & Sons," he said. "The one in Elmbridge Road is now a chemist I believe."
