ANIMAL rights extremists told TV presenter Adam Henson they were going to "burn" his children after he investigated the bovine tuberculosis and badger cull issue on the BBC's Countryfile programme.

The threat was revealed by Mr Henson when he spoke to 185 West Country farmers and agricultural professionals at a conference in Cornwall.

"There are some very nasty extremists about," he warned as he answered questions from the audience. "I have had some serious hate letters from them – things like 'we are going to burn your children'."

He said he had followed BBC guidelines to the letter when presenting the programme.

Cotswold Farm Park director Mr Henson said: "These guidelines are very strict. So you will never hear me saying we should be culling badgers. My hands are completely tied on the issue. I cannot campaign for anything at all, simply report what is said on both sides.

"But this is a hugely emotive subject and we have to realise that there are extremists on both sides of the argument."

“This is a very emotive issue but there is information which may throw light on the subject.
No-one has successfully proved that the cause of Boving TB is directly related to infection from badgers rather than the other way around i.e. that the badger group caught the TB from cattle in the first instance.
The closure of cattle markets and slughterhouses has increased the number of miles that cattle are moved significantly. If transported cattle have TB then this spreads the diesease over a wider area and it becomes more difficult to track the source and eradicate it.
Diet is an essential element in controlling TB. Many areas of grazing have low nutrient value which increases the risk of TB infection. Mineral licks which include selenium have been proven to reduce, and even eradicate, TB in farms that use them. It should be noted that it also reduces TB in badger populations on those farms.
TB is not restricted to cattle and badgers and any mammal can be affected. As badgers cover reltatively small areas in comparison with other mammals, such as deer, it seems pointless in culling (killing!) them but leaving other potential carriers..
Hundreds of millions of pounds have now been spent on this subject since the early 70s. It is estimated that an effective vaccine could have been developed for a fraction of this amount but that current rules make transportation and sale of vaccinated cattle impossible because once vaccinated the animal will test positive for TB, a vicious circle!”

“Farm Girl says 'never I am just having my say or is that not aloud and I am not thick so don't make out that you are all prime and proper'
I think you mean 'allowed' rather than 'aloud' and 'prim' rather than 'prime' maybe?
Also your post refers to 'baggers' (as aopposed to 'badgers' presumably?) 'live stoke' rather than 'livestock', a 'band' rather than a 'ban' and then tell someone they are 'igerntent' - possibly meant to be 'ignorant', I'm not sure.
But no, you are right. You are not thick at all....”
