FC Barometrics maintain promotion push with win at Tuffley

Steve Cleal's FC Barometrics side won an awkward looking encounter on Wednesday evening and kept up their promotion push.

The Baros started the game well and settled into a tidy rhythm although the chances were initially limited.

The game sprang into life after 15 minutes and neat passing play resulted in the ball landing at the feet of Jack Watts who blasted across goal and the ball eluded both the net and the onrushing Craig Jones.

More flowing football resulted in chances at the far post for Jack Hughes and then Lewis Peters but both hit straight at the veteran Tuffley goalkeeper.

The home side had chances themselves when a loose pass from Ash Murray allowed their pacy winger to deliver a cross, but it was met first by the head of the excellent Jonny Howley and the tidy up work was done neatly in midfield by skipper Laurence Perkins.

Jack Hadland was unlucky with a dipping free-kick going just over the bar as the Baros continued to press for the opening goal.

Jones was again prominent and when played through by Cornwall was unlucky that the ball ran through past the goalkeeper and despite a coming together Jones stayed on his feet but his misplaced pass was easily cut out.

The game then developed into a midfield battle for 20 mins with Baros wondering if they would rue missed chances.

Cleal clearly made points at half time as the Baros started the second half with a much disciplined and ultimately match winning period of play, first Jack Hadland, and Jack Hughes combined to free Lewis Peters in the penalty area only for the hard working striker to blast over.

The next passage of play resulted in the goal, Hadland played the ball wide with pace to Lewis Peters who’s flick on into the path of Jack Hughes whos superb pinpoint cross found in-form Jones who headed home for his 23rd goal of the season.

The Baros pushed on for more goals and the chances came thick and fast in the first 20 mins of the second half, with Watts, Peters and Perkins all forcing opportunities.

Cleal made changes and Thompson who replaced Hughes was particular excellent combining well with Jonny Howley and delivering quality crosses although Watts and Jones were unable to add to the score.

Cleal also gave a debut to young forward Brett Blake who looked lively upfront as a replacement for Craig Jones

Baros' defence which had been marshaled well throughout was only really troubled towards the end and Sherwood made a smart save and the near post following a goal mouth scramble from a free-kick.
