SHOPPERS had a snowball of a time on Saturday as a white Christmas came early to Gloucester.

The Eastgate Shopping Centre opened Santa's Grotto in a flurry at the weekend, with falling snow, dancing elves and Christmas carols on hand to well and truly banish any humbug spirit.

Jason Robinson, centre manager, said: "We were extremely excited to be officially hosting the city's first snowfall this year, and felt that falling snow and snowball fights would be the perfect way to help the public really get in the festive spirit."

Youngsters queued up to ensure Santa was fully informed of their festive wishlist.
