Fans queue for hours to meet heart-throbs McFly at Cheltenham's Rise
HORDES of screaming girls were sent into overdrive at a Cheltenham record shop when boyband McFly rocked into town.
Two members of the Brit Award-winning band were on hand at Rise Records in Beechwood Shopping Centre to sign copies of their new single, Shine a Light.
More than 250 fans, mostly female, queued up outside the shop in the hope of meeting their idols, Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher.
Holly Barrett, 16, from Tewkesbury, waited from 8.30am to get to the front of the queue.
She said: "It was definitely worth it. I have spent five years waiting to meet them, so I didn't mind waiting for nine hours today. It's not just the way they look that fans love.
"They are so down to earth and genuine. They took time to talk to everyone."
Emma Mills, 22, a University of Gloucestershire student from St Paul's, said: "It is so exciting to meet the boys.
"We've been fans for a long time and they are absolutely gorgeous."
On one of McFly's more recent visits to the town in 2006, crowds were caught up in a frightening crush when 30,000 people packed the Promenade to see them play.
But police and security workers were on hand yesterday to marshal fans, with queues snaking into an empty unit opposite the shop.
Heart-throb Danny, 25, said: "It's great to come to Cheltenham and meet all our fans here. We have been doing this for seven years now, so it's amazing to still get this kind of reception."

“"Wyn Morgan" and "Idiot Hunter"
Im not being funny, but what is the point in making comments such as these?
This signing brought good press attention to Cheltenham which as a student here I can say is extremely rare! I'd say this story is more positive than the recent drugs raids and gang stories that ive experienced from living here the past two years.
I attended the signing and I can say that it was extremely cival compared to many others that ive been to. It provided no trouble and ultimately boosted the sales and reputation of a business in Cheltenham.
I personally think its good that international stars such as these visit small cities like Cheltenham. It allows them to give back to fans and thank them for their dedication!
I'd like to think you'll both think about this in the future before posting such narrow minded responses.”
