THE heart has been ripped out of the Tredworth community since the death of landlady Wendy Dallimore, who was a "mother figure" to all who knew her.

The former boss of the Golden Heart suffered an asthma attack during a shopping trip on Friday and was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. She died the following morning aged 64.

Her family say her health deteriorated after a police raid on the pub and the upstairs flat she where she lived in December – which led to its closure.

She had run the Golden Heart for 17 years, since she it took on with husband Gary, who died less than a year after the couple moved in.

Around 50 police officers were involved in the 2011 raid, arresting eight people. Wendy, who had no previous convictions, was found in possession of 3.8 grams of cannabis with a street value of just £10. Although she said she took the drug to help ease the pain of three cracked vertebrae, she was fined £70 by the courts. The pub was put up for sale and she lost her job as the landlady. Her family said this was a contributing factor to her ill health.

A family statement read: "Wendy was much loved by the local community and seen as a motherly figure for most, always ready with a smile and some friendly advice. She watched generations grow, families would bring in their children and their children would bring in their children. She was popular with youngster's and elderly alike.

"Unfortunately Wendy's health deteriorated after the police raid and closure of the pub. We believe that this stress ultimately contributed to her ill health and untimely death.

"Wendy will be missed by all those whose life she touched, she will also be sadly missed by her partner Michael Moore and her children, Kim, Michael, Nicola, Kerry and Ben."

Pat Scannell was a regular in the Golden Heart and helped establish Porky's Pensioner's Lunch Club with Wendy.

"Wendy was one of the greatest landladies you could ask for," he said. "A day after Wendy died there was a bunch of flowers outside the pub, that goes to show how highly she was thought of in the community."

Sister-in-law Jennie Dallimore, said: "Losing the pub and now Wendy will have a huge impact on the Tredworth community.

"Wendy was at the heart of the family and was always the life and soul."

“A beautiful Lady, with truly a 'Golden Heart', I am both shocked and saddened by her sudden death, our love and thoughts are with Wendy's family and her partner and best friend 'Spike' x”

“I've got to agree with Ysedra. A stitch in time may have saved nine when it came to dealing with the drug problem in Tredworth. Closing the Golden Heart deprived some elderly residents of their luncheon club and certainly did little to curb the drug problem, which is caused by people rather than places. Only five weeks after the closure, The Citizen had the story "Drugs and yobs making life hell in Tredworth residents say".

It's sad to think that the closure of the Golden Heart was a contibutory factor in the ill health that led to Wendy's death.”

“I did not know Wendy Dallimore, but fate seems to have dealt her a cruel blow when her husband died so soon after they took over the Golden Heart. It cannot have been easy for her running that pub on her own and there are some evil people living in Tredworth/Barton, not to mention all those "good" people who looked the other way. RIP Wendy.”

“On balance, yes, MistyBuff. I hate to sound like a politician, but I think it would have been more inappropriate *not* to try to salvage something from a mess which had its origins in community apathy, if not some individuals actually looking the other way. I hope many more people share their memories of Wendy Dallimore on this page, while also keeping in mind that the raid didn't really cure anything, to put it mildy, and people need to find out what will.

And yes, thoughts go out to family and friends.”

    “Ouch Ysedra.
Was this REALLY an appropriate place to advertise a residents association meeting???

RIP Wendy. Asthma can indeed be a fatal illness and stress is a recognised contributor to the condition. Thoughts with your family and (many) friends. x”

“A sad day, but if the closure was a factor in this death, a lot of people, besides the drug dealers and their clientele, had a hand in letting things get to the point where closure was the only option (and the article rather glosses over that). That's what happens when you *don't* get involved. Slowly, you lose everything.

The next Tredworth Residents Association meeting is on Wednesday, 3rd October, 3:30pm, at the city farm.”
