Fears of third Gloucestershire flooding in three months
RESIDENTS and businesses in flood-prone parts of the county were fearing the worst last night.
River levels were rising due to the thaw that followed the end of the big freeze alongside rain that had fallen for much of the day. More rain was also forecast for Gloucestershire today.
It led to some people expecting to be flooded for the third time in three months, following the deluges of November and December that hit parts of the county.
Yesterday, Tewkesbury town centre had flooding in places commonly seen under water in the winter.

The Ham was covered, as were The Vineyards and the Abbey Mill area.
But while residents there were largely unaffected, some people in nearby villages were concerned.
Zog Ziegler was preparing for his Tirley home to flood yet again as the River Severn levels rose.
He said: "I would expect to be flooded by late afternoon or evening on Tuesday.
"We're taking all the precautions we can. I'm beginning to think it will be the third time in nine weeks.
"It's just relentless. I can't see how we're going to get away with it."
He said the stress of the situation was making him ill and he now hated the River Severn, whereas he used to love it.
Kelly Baikie, of the Haw Bridge Inn at Tirley, was also anxiously waiting to see whether the pub would flood for a third time in three months.
She said: "The fields opposite are starting to fill up. It's so wet everywhere."
Late yesterday afternoon, the Environment Agency had four flood warnings in place in Gloucestershire. They were for the River Severn at The Ham, Tewkesbury and for the Severn at Apperley and The Leigh.
The warnings also applied to the River Avon at Twyning and the River Frome at Brimscombe and Thrupp.
Warnings were also in place for the Avon at Bredon and Strensham, just over the border into Worcestershire.
The agency said the level of the Severn at the Mythe, Tewkesbury, was 4.08m and rising. A peak level of between 4.1 and 4.3m was expected this afternoon, it said. Flooding becomes possible at 3.96m. The worst floods since 2007 were in November when the level at the Mythe reached 4.52m.

“Mythe reached 5.5 in 2007 - a simple fact available from the EA website. This stat makes it sound like the current situation is close to that of 2007, which clearly it's not.”
