Fears over loss of wages board
HUNDREDS of workers across the county could have their wages hit by plans to scrap a central body.
The Government has confirmed moves to abolish the Agricultural Wages Board, which has considered wage claims for 150,000 workers in England and Wales for more than 60 years, to modernise the labour market.
Defra figures show it could affect more than 2,182 agricultural workers in the county – 903 in the Cotswolds, 602 in the Forest of Dean, 385 in Stroud, 278 in Tewkesbury, 14 in Cheltenham and less than five in Gloucester.
