Film raises awareness for young diabetics
A TOUCHING film highlighting the plight of families affected by Type 1 diabetes is raising awareness of the "hidden condition" in children.
Stroud film makers teamed up with mum Jo Dury, whose daughter Emily was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 11 months old.
She and other mums of youngsters who deal with the effects of the condition every day were filmed explaining how it touches their lives.
"It is a genuinely heartfelt and emotional piece reflecting, I hope, the intricacies of living as Type 1 parents," said Jo, from Rodborough.

Suscito Films boss Domonic White, from Stroud, teamed up with industry experts David Thomas, Martin McLaughlin, and Matt Bigwood to make the film based on the poem A Mother's Anthem by Linda Kaniasty for self-help group Children with Diabetes UK during Diabetes Awareness Week 2012 (June 10 to 16).
People with Type 1 Diabetes cannot produce insulin, a hormone that converts carbohydrates into fuel for the body to function. Emily wears an insulin pump.
Insulin pumps work by delivering a varied dose of fast-acting insulin continually throughout the day and night.
Because there are few visual signs of diabetes it is often known as the "hidden condition".
Every year, Jo helps put together a calendar of children with Type 1 Diabetes to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The Duchess of Cornwall recently became the JDRF's president.
"This year I wanted to show how much hard work goes into looking after a child with special medical needs , lifelong and chronic conditions," said Jo.

This shows the darker side, the heart rendering side to having a child with type 1 diabetes that many don't see so I love this as it is very close to my heart. Brilliant”
