Film society pictures a poolside setting for flicks
MORE than 100 people turned out for a film viewing with a difference in Cheltenham.
Sanford Parks Lido provided a tranquil setting for 150 viewers on Saturday night.
With the sound of the pool and the fountain adding to the ambience, the film, Welcome, detailed the efforts of a 17-year-old Iraqi Kurd set on swimming the English Channel.
The event was put on by Cheltenham Film Society in conjunction with the attraction.
Iain Barton, events manager at the Lido said: "We showed a film at the Lido for the first time last year.
"It was successful so we decided to do it again.
"Having the Lido as a setting really works. The comments we had from people afterwards were all really positive.
"They love the setting and the number of people who turned up shows people want to see films in different settings.
"Everyone brought their chairs and blankets and wrapped up warm and we sold popcorn at the cafe."
The Lido is due to close for the winter on September 25 but Iain says the event was so successful it will be repeated next year.
Cheltenham Film Society has been running for more than 60 years and currently has more than 400 members.
