Piles of rubbish, dozens of dog food tins and drugs paraphernalia were found in a grotty Gloucester flat.

The flat in Matson Avenue was so dirty it will feature as part of a fly-on-the-wall television documentary called Filth Fighters.

A neighbour of the flat, who did not wish to be named, said: “I did see all the TV kit here earlier in the week.

“The cleaners have been in and cleaned the whole place up.

“I don’t know much about the people who lived there. I only saw the bloke once or twice.

“Their flat never bothered me. I didn’t even know about all this.”

The Gooch Group, from Cheltenham, was drafted in to blitz the mess after the flat’s tenants were evicted.

Cleaners Dave Gill and Asa Hearn were filmed last week clearing up the flat.

Dave, who has been working for the Gooch Group for the past two years having previously run his own cleaning firm, said: “You have to have a strong stomach for this job, but I’m used to it now.

“You see all sorts and have to deal with all manner of situations, but the strangest thing about this has been the filming. It was quite odd having a camera crew filming your every move. I didn’t realise they would be so much in our face.

“I’m not sure I’ll be watching it when it comes on – I think it might make me cringe to see myself on television. It’s certainly been an experience.”

Colin Gooch, who owns the firm on the Lansdown Industrial estate, said: “My wife and I have been running it for the past 20 years. It’s a great job to have and we have a good team of people behind us. It’s just what we do to. We tackle all sorts and I’ve seen some very usual scenes.

“We tend to score jobs on a one to ten basis depending on how bad they are. A really bad job has a higher score, but there’s never been anything too tough to handle and actually we enjoy what we do.”

Filth Fighters, which will feature several rubbish-strewn properties across the country along with the brave souls who clean them, airs on Sky’s Real Life channel in May.

“Gooch Groups also sell amazing cleaning products at very fair prices - better value than some of the well known brands and they do an amazing job and leave a very pleasant orangy scent.”

“A bit extreme but I bet the people who lived there never suffered from any modern allergies. Our children could do with a bit of dirt to strengthen their immune systems .”
