Firefighters tackle car blaze on M5 motorway

FIRE left a car badly damaged on the M5 between Cheltenham and Tewkesbury yesterday morning.

Firefighters received calls from several members of the public shortly after 11am after spotting a vehicle on fire on the northbound carriageway, between junctions nine and 10.

A fire engine from Cheltenham West Station in Uckington and another from Tewkesbury Community Fire Station were sent to the blaze.

The car, a Peugot 406, was left badly damaged by the fire. Nobody was believed to have been injured in the incident.

The fire crews also washed down the hard shoulder of the motorway, which was covered in oil as a result of the blaze.
