Firefighters could be tackling a barn fire in Hucclecote for days to stop dangerous gas cylinders exploding.

Fire crews from Gloucester and a water carrier from Cheltenham were called to the large barn fire in Stump Lane at around 11.15pm last night.

They have got the blaze under control but, because of the cylinders, firefighters are expected to be at the scene for some time.

A Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “The 20m x 50m barn was well alight when firefighters got there yesterday. The barn contains acetylene cylinders and propane cylinders.

“Because the cylinders have to be kept cool we expect to be on the scene for a couple of days.”

The incident is being treated as suspicious and a fire investigation is now underway.

Anyone with any information about the fire should call Gloucestershire Police on 0845 090 1234 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident 564 of September 2.
