ONE of Gloucestershire's MEP's has apologised for an "insensitive" tweet which infuriated political opponents and his own party.

Liberal Democrat European parliament member for the South West, Sir Graham Watson, was reprimanded by the party for saying on Twitter Prime Minister David Cameron's postponement of a speech on Europe was "Al Qaeda 1, @David_Cameron 0".

He was referring to the Algeria hostage crisis and said on Twitter: "I wish to apologise profusely for the insensitive tweet I issued earlier."
