Fish and chip shop plans in Brockworth welcomed by businesses
PLANS for a fish and chip shop in Brockworth are being welcomed by existing businesses.
Plans have been submitted for the new takeaway in Abbotswood Shopping Centre, but some Brockworth councillors have concerns over the smell wafting into nearby homes and litter.
Next door salon, Hair Design, said it was good new businesses were opening in the area.
They are reassuring customers this week that the salon is staying open after some thought the salon could be replaced by the chip shop.

Derek Voice, whose wife Margaret has run it for 25 years, said: “The first I heard that we were supposed to be closing down was when my customers started ringing up, telling me about it.
“I think there must have been confusion from the photographs taken with the planning documents. We have shutters up at night, but we are very much open for business and nothing has changed. Until it is open, we won’t know how it will effect our business. It is good to see new businesses opening up so we won’t be objecting to the plans at this stage.
“It is up to Tewkesbury Borough Council to decide.
“I think any objections are likely to come from nearby homes who may have an issue with the smell.”
Applicants Peter and Sally Shum already run two other businesses in the county, The Hong Kong House in Quedgeley and Manor Chinese Takeaway in Stroud. The proposed opening hours are 11.30am to 11pm seven days a week with the business closing on bank holidays.
Stuart Workman, who runs a DIY and plastering business nearby in Abbotswood Road, said: “I’ve only just heard about the shop being filled and I can’t see it being a problem.
“There is already a takeaway near there so it will be competition for them, but it won’t effect my business.”
