FOOD for needy families will find a new home next week.

Demand for vital supplies from struggling families has seen stock at the North Cotswold Foodbank overflow from its small store into Naunton Chapel and is currently being stored on church pews.

Now the successful enterprise, opened in late 2011, is moving in its entirety to Guiting Power.

Guiting Amenity Trust has given the charity a 1,000ft secure store in part of an agricultural building.

Foodbank manager James Milton said the new store would help the charity to grow.

He added: "This is a wonderful provision.

"We were having to store most of our stock on the pews in the chapel. This new store has enough room for us to efficiently handle whatever is thrown at us in the future."

Over the last year, more than 1,000 households in financial crisis received emergency food allocations after 12.5 tonnes of donations rolled in.

The new store should be open and running by February 8.

“Ah yes, foodbanks. The biggest scam in the last few years.

Yes, of course you are busy and struggle to keep up with demand.
I find the same problem when I stand in the town centre handing out £20 notes.

If you are giving it away, obviously people will come - why wouldn't they? and this is not a measure of poverty.”
