Ford motors to top of charts again
CHELTENHAM and County Harrier Martin Ford topped the national Vet 65 rankings for the second week running.
He clocked an impressive time of 83:20 at the Bath Half Marathon, just one week after topping the rankings at the Bourton 10k.
Ford, 67, again took victory in his age category with his fastest half marathon since 2006.
His time was a full minute quicker than he achieved when topping the rankings in 2009.
At the same event Elliot Prince followed up his recent 10K personal best by taking almost three minutes from his previous half marathon best, finishing with a chip time of 75:08.
At the county road relays Cheltenham Harriers won both the senior mens' and junior mens' silver medals.
The Under-17 boys finished 11th overall taking the junior silver medals behind event winners Stroud.
Carsten Adams had placed 16th on the opening stage with a 19.16 leg, a position maintained by Tom Migliuolo's 18.48 on the second stage.
Ted Shaughnessy then moved the team up three places as he clocked 19.07, before Dan Owen ran the team's fastest leg of 17:22 to move the juniors up to 11th place overall.
Elsewhere, Dave Rantell continued his preparations for a spring marathon with eighth in the Gloucester 20 mile road race.
Rantell's time of 2:09.02 saw him finish as second veteran and extend his lead in the veteran's category of the county road race series.
Paul Barnes also earned valuable series points as he finished second Gloucestershire Vet 50 in 2:26.11, while Dave McGrath completed the course in 2:25.24.
