A Gloucestershire woman who burst into her female ex-partner's home with a knife and attacked her has been locked up.

Gloucester Crown Court heard Tara Giles, 35, had spiralled into drink and drug abuse. She was given a suspended sentence and drugs rehabilitation order in September but had failed so badly that she was now a danger to herself. Giles, formerly of Parkend Road, Bream, admitted breaching the 44-week suspended sentence order and was remanded in custody until January 26 by Judge Michael Harington.

He ordered a pre-sentence report. Paul Grumbar, prosecuting for the probation service, said she had been making 'significant progress' in November but then a personal matter had thrown her off course.

Mr Grumbar added: "From that time onwards she has been taking drugs and escalating her substance misuse, which is spiralling out of control, and behaving in an increasingly chaotic manner."

The court was told that Giles' former partner Charlotte Griffiths was in the Swan pub in Cinderford with a woman friend, Helen Cumming, and they both drank five to six pints of lager,

They had not been back at Ms Griffiths' house for long when there was a bang on the front door. It was Giles, who rushed into the house shouting 'I'm going to kill you. There's something going on between you and Nellie'.

She had a kitchen knife in her hand and she jabbed it towards Ms Griffiths, scratching around her eyes. She also caused a small wound in her arm, the court heard.
