Forest Green 1 Cambridge Utd 1 - full time
FOREST GREEN ROVERS 1 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1
YAN Klukowski's last-minute penalty spared Forest Green from defeat on the opening day of the Blue Square Bet Premier season.
Tom Elliott's debut strike in the first half gave Jez George's outfit the advantage, but Rovers' 18-goal top scorer in 2011/12 denied them all three points.
The deadlock was broken when Gary Roberts' delivery into the home area was only cleared to Josh Coulson in the left channel, who swung over the perfect cross for Elliott to convert with a diving header.

United's skipper Roberts was superb all afternoon, but he could have no complaints at referee Darren Handley's decision to point to the spot after clumsily felling James Norwood.
Klukowski missed two penalties during pre-season but reverted to his form of last term, coolly sending Jonathan Hedge the wrong way to make it 1-1.

“A bit jaundiced Pif.
Cambridge summed up the dilemma Rovers will face this term. How to break down a defensive unit. Rovers were poor for 20 minutes and only started to play after United scored. After, they got better and better with some fine passing moves. A win would not have flattered them after a one sided 25 minutes before half time and second half, where the United 'keeper made some sharp saves.
Also, Rovers have Jared Hodgkiss, Chris Stokes, Chris Todd, Paul Green and now Jan K sidelined with injuries. Chris Stokes will be a few weeks but the others are months. Kieron Forbes was polaxed in the first minute and his subdued first half showing was unsurprising. James Rowe proved an effective second half replacement
Why criticise DH Jack? 10th last year and 3 wins off the play-offs. Give me Southampton, Reading and Watford youngsters any day - can't think of a bad player he has brought in. Name one? With Jim Harvey we had to have Morecombe cast-offs and a joke defence.
Finally, good at least to see comments on a Rovers game. Keep it up - we need to arouse the County's interest and add to the following at the New Lawn”

“Nice pitch to play passing football we're told. Straight from kick off, two touches, bang hit it long in the air. All first half hitting it high and long trying to find the the smallest player on the pitch. Let's hope it was first game nerves as the first half was shocking. Some good possession 2nd with no real cutting edge. Let's hope they really have the desire to play for the club. Bangura looked like he was just waltzing around only to pick up the cash!”

“There's a bit of deja vu about this. Late penalty secures a draw, manager praises effort but in the end, not good enough. Let's hope Mr Vince's bullish support for DH is not misguided; he's tied up a lot of resources in this squad and I for one worry that it seems to be full of his old mates from Watford and Soton. Where they weren't good enough.”
