Gloucestershire will get its first chance to congratulate the proud grandfather-to-be, Prince Charles, when he switches on the Christmas Lights in Tetbury.

Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are set to plummet Tetbury into full festive spirit on Friday night.

And showing its Christmas spirit, Cotswold District Council is offering free parking at the Church Street and West Street car parks after 3pm ready for the 6pm switch on.

The Feoffees, who own the Chipping car park, are also suspending charges.

Road closures will be in place in the centre of Tetbury from 3pm to 9pm on 7 December to provide more space for pedestrians.

It will be the second time the royals have done the switching on duties, but the first time together as a couple.

They will be assisted by competition-winning children from St Mary's Primary and Sir William Romney's Schools and, afterwards, will meet local residents.

Earlier in the day, the Duchess is due to get into the Christmas spirit with a festive extravaganza at Bowood House, near her home in Lacock.

Cabinet member for the Environment, councillor David Fowles, said: "I am pleased to confirm that parking charges will be waived in Tetbury after 3pm on December 7 and I very much hope that it will encourage more people to come out and enjoy the Christmas light ceremony as well as the late night shopping and entertainment on offer."

“The Engine Shed Car Park is free anyway.

Parking Charges only apply up until 6pm anyway.

The 3 car parks that are free after 3pm must hold, oh, about 100 cars.

    A huge sacrifice by CDC!!!”
