Friends Group to be set up following resident’s petition
Following a petition to the city council regarding a piece of open space in Tuffley, the council is looking to local residents to come forward to form a 'Friends Group.'
The aim of the group would be to work with the city council to make the best use of the valuable piece of open space at Slimbridge Road Triangle.
The land previously housed a small amount of play equipment in the 1990's, but this was removed in 2006 after the equipment had become unsafe.
Councillor Jennie Dallimore, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, Gloucester City Council said: "The city council is committed to providing good quality play sites throughout the city. However, this area is a small site surrounded by roads and in recent years safer play areas close to the area have had major investment with provision for all kinds of play.

"This area of Tuffley is only 500m walking distance to Scott Avenue play area which was refurbished in March 2012, 400m away from Randwick Park which was refurbished in August 2012 and in walking distance of Holmleigh Park which had new items of equipment installed in April 2012.
"These sites offer a much safer environment for young people to play on the equipment provide or in the open spaces themselves in line with national guidelines.
"The city council is also working on a comprehensive city plan for Gloucester, which amongst other things highlights the importance of providing good quality, safe play areas and open spaces in the future and identifies additional provision of these in new residential sites for the future."
