Gaetan Quinson to take on triathlon after injury
NINE months ago Gaetan Quinson was recovering from knee surgery which threatened to stop him playing the sport he loved.
The keen amateur footballer, 33, suffered a meniscal cartilage and cruciate knee ligament tear, which he picked up during a match.
Deprived of his twice-weekly hobby and feeling the bulge of inactivity, Gaetan decided to sign up for the Cheltenham Triathlon.
The waiter, from Cheltenham, has been cycling ever since to build up his fitness in readiness for the event on September 8.

He will take on a 500 metre swim in the Sandford Parks Lido, then jump onto his bike for a 15km cycle ride and follow it up with a 2.7km run.
He has selected the Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA) to raise money for.
"I'm doing as much as I can," said Gaetan, who is originally from the south of France. "It's difficult when I'm working.
"I have been going to the gym three or four times a week and doing my bike training twice a week.
"I have been doing a lot of spin sessions which is the best way to rebuild your knee.
"I'm hoping to do it in an hour and 10 minutes. It's the first time I've done a triathlon but I am doing it in a team of four, so we are all trying to beat each other's time."
Gaetan, who works at La Tasca, chose the GDA as his charity in support of his wife Samantha, who works for them.
"It's hard to get people to donate money these days," he said, "especially if it's not a cancer charity.
"So I thought why not support my wife's work?
"They are always looking for people to raise money for them?"
Gemma Sills, GDA's fundraiser, said: "We are constantly in awe of anyone who is prepared to come out of their comfort zone and do something for GDA.
"We wish Gaetan all the very best with his training and fundraising and look forward to cheering him on the day." GDA offers specialist services and community activities to deaf and hard of hearing children and adults in Gloucestershire.
The charity works to provide practical and emotional support that focuses on improving quality of life and independence.
