GENEROUS parishioners at a Quedgeley church have given a helping hand to Gloucester's struggling families.

People who attend St James Church were asked to collect items of food for the Gloucester Foodbank, which helps people who are on the breadline in the city.

They filled four large cardboard boxes for the organisation. They were asked to donate items such as cans of beans, soups, cereals and packet foods over several weeks in the run up to Lent.

Reverend John Ward, rector and parish priest, said: "It is wonderful that the congregation have once again rallied round and been so generous. I am sure these items will go some way to helping those families who are struggling to provide food on the table."

“Why on earth would our MP D!ck, (or is that the other way round) want to visit the "Foodbank" - I mean, imagine him getting caught pilfering from there - that would be him finished...”

“These food banks need everyones support and the people running them are providing a fantastic service to those in need in the city. Perhaps our illustious MP could follow the Prime Ministers footsteps and pay it a visit, But unlike Mr Camoron, go there when the people who use it are actually there..”
