ALEX GIDMAN will make a decision about his Gloucestershire future after meeting with John Bracewell next week.

The county vice-captain denied reports he had already agreed to join Warwickshire, who made an approach for his services last month along with Surrey.

But he has made it clear he will remain at Nevil Road only if Bracewell is re-appointed head coach and, crucially, shares similar ambitions for the club.

The New Zealander's contract with New Zealand expires in April of next year, and he has admitted a return to Gloucestershire is a 'positive option' to consider.

Gidman said: “I'll be sitting down with John Bracewell next week and after that I'll have a pretty clear idea of my future.

“It's important I hear what his plans are for the club if he comes back, so there's no chance I'll be making a decision until that happens.

“I've spoken to Warwickshire and Surrey and, as I've said before, I'm extremely flattered that big counties are interested in signing me.

“But it's not true to say I've agreed to go anywhere and it's not definite I'll be leaving Gloucestershire.”

Tempting Bracewell back remains the number one priority at Bristol, particularly given the county's disappointing first half of the season.

Without a win in the County Championship, Jon Lewis' side were beaten at home by Yorkshire in the FP Trophy quarter-finals and finished bottom of the Mid/West/Wales Division after a miserable Twenty20 Cup campaign.

It is all a far cry from Bracewell's first spell in charge between 1998 and 2003, during which he collected six one-day trophies and oversaw promotion to the top division of the Championship.

All-rounder Gidman. 27, is desperate for more success in order to push his claims for full international honours.

England selector Ashley Giles is Warwickshire's director of cricket, while former South Africa paceman Allan Donald is their bowling coach.

A move to either Edgbaston or The Oval would undoubtedly raise Gidman's profile – and boost his bank balance – yet he has long been seen as the next Gloucestershire captain and could be in line for a benefit year.

Warwickshire have also made an approach for county fast bowler Steve Kirby, but he too could be persuaded to stay put by Bracewell's return and the offer of a benefit.
