Police are investigating a report that a 12-year-old girl was grabbed by a man as she walked her dog and threatened with a knife.

The incident is alleged to have happened as the girl walked along Station Road between Bourton on the Hill and Blockley.

It was reported that between 6pm and 6.30pm on Saturday August 28 the girl was walking along the B4479 towards Bourton on the Water, when a man appeared in front of her, grabbed her and threatened her with knife.

The man was described as around 5ft 9” tall and aged between 40 and 50-years-old with greying hair but bald on top. He was wearing a balaclava, gloves, dark coloured combat trousers and a sleeveless ‘puffa’ jacket.

The girl was able to free herself and ran up the road towards Blockley, the man left in the opposite direction.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wasley said: “Reports such as this are taken incredibly seriously and investigated thoroughly.  We would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area on Saturday evening to contact us as soon as possible.

“We are also eager to hear from the owner of a small gold/orange car that was parked in a gateway on the road around the time of the incident.

“We would like to reassure the community that incidents such as these are incredibly rare in Gloucestershire that the Bourton on the Hill and Blockley areas remain safe places to live.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident number 382 of August 28. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“It was obviously a very traumatic experience for the girl, no wonder her description is garbled, or at least the reporting of the incident is garbled as its hardly likely she was walking towards Bourton on the Water on the Bourton on the Hill to Blockley Road.
Luckily she had the dog which probably scared the would be attacker off.
As for the clothes, it may be a stereotype but I would have thought a balaclava and gloves would be pretty much essential clothing for any would be rapist.”

“I don't suppose the small gold car had twelve white mice harnessed to the front of it by any chance?”

“If this attack is for real I hope the assailant will be quickly apprehended and duly punished.

However, I'm not surprised that readers are casting doubt on the girl's story, or even refusing to take her story seriously, given such a scant report. Did the alleged assailant make any attempt to rob the girl? Did he say anything to her, or is there any suggestion of a sexual motive? Rather more investigative journalism in future please TIG.”

“whenever anyone describes their attacker as wearing a balaclava, black gloves etc. its a lie. Its the typical morons view of what a potential rapist looks like, fed by films and tv. 99% of the time I believe any victim of violent crime as telling the truth, this time no way!”
