Gloucester AC dominate at Sandhurst

GLOUCESTER AC dominated the county road relay championships at the White Horse.

They took senior county gold medals in the men's, women's and men's Vet 60 category and also claimed the fastest individual legs through Steve Millward and Gemma Collier.

Millward led the team home in first after the opening leg, covering the 3.25 mile course in 15.21.

Andrew de Camps took over and kept the team in contention with 17.33, followed by Nico Constanti who ran round in 16.36.

Richard de Camps brought the team home in third overall with a time of 16.05, good enough to take the senior county title.

Michelle Stark led the ladies' team off in 21.30 before handing over to Melissa Whitlock with 21.28.

Collier completed the race clocking 21.08 for the day's fastest lady award.

In the men's Vet 40 category, Dave Gresswell started the team off with 17.51 and handed over to Paul Nash who timed 19.47.

Jeremy Mower made up some ground with 17.55 before Ian Summers almost caught Severn AC to take the county title, gaining over a minute on their final leg athlete.

Gloucester AC's Vet 60 team took their county title, led off by Arthur Daley who ran superbly for 19.05 minutes to be the quickest over-60 athlete of the day.

John McClean ran 21.48 and the team were brought to victory by Dave Spackman in 22.02.

Mower was the leading Gloucester athlete in the Gloucester 20 Mile, pacing the race well to finish 14th in a time of 2:10.59.

Running the distance for the first time was Andy Hawkins, who finished 17th in 2:12.14. Alistair Wakefield was next, 19th in 2:13.35.

Jane Leckebusch was the club's leading lady in 125th, finishing in 2:37.56, while Chris Campbell smashed her personal best by more than five minutes with 3:00.48.

Newcomer Salina Wathen finished strongly, claiming 253rd place with 3:15.02, followed in by Rachael Hancocks in 271st with 3:24.02.
