Gloucester AC make history
GLOUCESTER AC senior men's and women's teams have created history by winning both team titles at the county road race series.
Comprising 12 races over a range of distances, and organised by the various clubs in the county, Gloucester had too much strength in depth and were convincing winners in both categories.
Leading the way was senior men's individual winner Steve Millward, who won six of the seven races he competed in to wrap up the series title at the final race in Tewkesbury two weeks ago.
Luke Herbert produced a strong finish to the season to snatch third place overall at the final race.
Dave Gresswell dominated the veteran Over-40 category, taking several age group wins to claim his first county series title.
He was backed up by men's road team captain Jeremy Mower, who was a clear second in the same age group.
These four athletes were supported by Dom Malsom, Lee Smith, Alistair Wakefield and Andy Renfree to make up the victorious team.
Gloucester's women claimed their maiden county series team title, producing consistently strong performances from a core of talented and upcoming athletes.
Gemma Collier claimed second place overall before looking to attempt the steeplechase on the track next summer.
Lorraine Ryan took third in the series despite struggling with niggling injuries in the second half of the year.
Michelle Stark was the delighted winner of the Over-35 category with several maximum 10-point performances and was well supported by Chris Campbell, who was third overall in the same category.
Completing the team success was Kim Drinkwater, Jane Leckebusch, Maxine Gray and 15-year-old Becky Summers.
