Gloucester City Museum to close for refurbishment
THESE are the first images of how Gloucester City Museum will look once its £1million refurbishment is complete
The museum and art gallery in Brunswick Road will shut on September 13 until Easter.

MORE INTERACTIVE: A computer generated image of the new-look Gloucester City Museum.
When it reopens, its new, more interactive displays will tell the story of Gloucester from prehistoric to modern times.
There will also be a new reception area, shop and cafe.
Sarrah Macey, of Gloucester City Council's culture and tourism department, said: "The medieval section will be like walking down a road with a dirt floor, the Roman section will have a Roman wall. It will be much better."
The £1m refurbishment will also include changes to the Folk Museum, in Westgate Street, which will focus on the famous characters of Gloucester.
Sensible
Visiting the museum, Frederick Strange, 76, of Dursley, who used to be on the Gloucestershire Education Committee, said: "The plans sound very sensible.
"I think it's been three years since I last came here. I think the museum's very presentable but, hopefully, they know what they're doing and the changes will make it even better.
"It is good but from the sound of it, it should become even better."
Caroline Herivel, 36, also from Dursley, was visiting the museum with her son Joe, three.
She said: "It would be brilliant. Joe's only three. There's not that much here for him.
"They have tried, and there's jigsaws and things for him, but it would be better if it was more interactive.
"A cafe would also be brilliant, with kids that's just so important."
The museum will take part in the city's Heritage Open Weekend, from September 9-12, when the public will be able to see the museum for the last time.
It will then close, and will reopen to the public in Easter 2011.
The Folk Museum will remain open while refurbishment work there is ongoing.

“The City Museum reopened last Saturday (6th August) and is well worth a wander round.
Nice new cafe too!”

“No problem,jas.
I trust the City Council about as far as I can throw the rusty spear that has appeared to blight the docks.
Blighting the Docks is the forte of Gloucester City Council.
Include the dereliction of any morality as evidenced by the closure of Public Toilets by the same bunch of charlatans who are whinging about not having any money when it's their own shambolic party who have robbed them.
Remember the Band Stand Demolition? What more do you need to know how devious the City Council is?
As both City and County Councils work hand in glove, how do you suppose that a camera got placed at Llanthony bridge without collusion instead of a non money earning No Entry sign?
In a nutshell,I'm all for promoting the best for Gloucester and the way I see it is that there are too many jobsworthies with positions of power who deny the City the right to prosper as a whole.
Give me a month in charge and I'd do more to help Gloucester prosper than any of this quango laden shower can do in a decade. It may involve the demise of the City and County Councils and creation of a single authority for our relatively small county population.
I will continue to watch every move the City Council makes with prejudice.
I hope this goes some way to answer you, jas.”

“I doubt it Quedgeley Guy, Quedgeley , especially as the Council do not own the old college building.
Wouldn't it seem logical that the developer would finance the development of the old college site?
Aren't you the sane person that was trying to give people the impression that the City council were responsible for the traffic camera on Llanthony bridge?
I can't work out whether you are being mischievous, perhaps have some political motive to deride the city council or just haven't got a clue about what you're talking about.
Could you tell us which one?”

“I hope this is not a cynical trick by our City Council to close and sell off the Museum and the Library to a developer to supplement development of the old college.
Think about it!”
