As is tradition in American football, the quarterback is the man that makes a team tick and Bath found to their chagrin that this was Rowe's day.

The game itself exploded into life in the opening minutes when Gloucester marched down the field and crossed the Bulldogs' line twice, giving the home team a 14 - 0 lead.

Both touchdowns coming from the arm of quarterback Rowe.

It was beginning to look as if the game would be over before the half time whistle sounded - but the Bulldogs had a few tricks up their sleeves and in the closing stages of the first quarter they threatened the Gladiators line on several occasions and if it wasn't for some heroics from the defence, Gloucester could have conceded scores.

Most notable was a play by Tom Patience, stripping the ball from the Bath quarterback, then recovering it and setting up Rowe to perform his magic with another touchdown pass to put the Gladiators further ahead by 20-0.

Bath still threatened with a surging run on the KO return, gaining 40 yards but a fumble cost them dear. With the clock ticking down to half time, Rowe found Tim Penny inthe endzone for another touchdown.

At the whistle, Gladiators were ahead by 26-0. Play after the break deteriorated and was best forgotten with both teams in Jekyll and Hyde mode. Fumbles, interceptions and indiscipline peppered the quarter until another moment of genius by Gloucester QB Rowe pushed the score to 33 - 0. Bath, shellshocked, had just their pride to play for now, found the Achilles' heel of the home defence but fumbles, yet again, were their downfall.

This encounter was ambling down to the final whistle when up stepped QB Rowe and one final throw of the dice saw him finding wide receiver Dan Gilding in the endzone for a touchdown to close out the game, with the Gladiators winning by 40 - 0
