Gloucester Rugby: Dave Lewis hails dream scrum
ARMCHAIR rides are a scrum-half's dream says Dave Lewis, after being gifted a front row seat by his powerful pack for the Fiji flattening.
The Pacific Islanders may not have been the cleanest when it came to breakdown technique, but the sheer bulk of their huge frames was enough to cause Gloucester early problems.
In fact the first scrum of the match saw a penalty go Fiji's way, before the Cherry and Whites' charging chariot firmly rolled into town in the second half.
Two penalty tries plus two scores from driving mauls capped a fine Kingsholm comeback and Lewis says a lot of pats on the back went his forwards' way.

"There were some pretty big boys throwing their weight around, which was nothing we did not expect, but it is still tough to play against," said Lewis.
"After the initial 20 minutes we coped with it fairly well and we were better than them in the tight and tried to use that as much as possible and got a couple of tries from there.
"It was a brilliant place to be, it's a scrum-half's dream. Your forward pack are going forward all the time and you are just sat there shouting at a few people and pushing them around.
"They just kept going forward, so all credit to the pack because they got us back into the game and eventually won it for us.
"It's a credit to the squad really, because some boys have been champing at the bit to get game time and they got it and showed why they have been so keen to get it.
"That has been why throughout the years we have been successful, because everyone else is playing well and they really want to show how good they are."
It was a strange experience for Lewis to find himself in as the more senior halfback, with 20-year-old Dan Robson standing in at stand-off and producing a faultless kicking display.
After being loaned out to Cinderford for a National One match at Esher two weeks' ago, Lewis is keen to show director of rugby Nigel Davies what he can do in this LV= Cup window.
"I just want to play as much rugby as possible and keep working on my game and keep putting pressure on Nigel to pick me this week – that is all I can do really," said 23-year-old Lewis.
"I look at every week as a chance to show what you can do, and if you get the opportunities in that two-week period then that's great and if you get them at other times then great.
"But every time you step onto the pitch it's a chance to show how good you are and you can impress the coaches and try and carry that forward."
