Gloucester boy, 16 seriously injured in Cole Avenue crash

A 16-year-old boy from Gloucester suffered life threatening injuries in a road traffic collision on Cole Avenue, in Gloucester last night.

The incident happened at 10.45pm when the boy, who was riding a BMX bike, was in collision with a Silver VW Golf at the traffic lights on the junction of Podsmead Road and Epney Road.

The boy was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, and has since been transferred to Frenchay Hospital, in Bristol, where he remains.

The driver of the Golf - a 30-year-old Gloucester man - was arrested on suspicion of careless driving and has been released on police bail until September 20 pending further enquiries.

He had a passenger in his vehicle, a Gloucester woman aged 33, who was also taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment for a broken collar bone.

The road was closed for six hours while an investigation began into the cause of the collision.

Police would ask any witnesses they have not yet spoken to, or anyone who can assist the investigation, to ring them on 101 quoting incident number 593 of July 22.
