Gloucester catholics welcome Pope visit
Members of the Gloucester Catholic community are celebrating after the Pope announced he would visit the UK.
Pope Benedict XVI will come to the country in September of this year.

Right Reverend Declan Lang, the Bishop of Clifton, said: "I am sure he will receive a warm welcome not only from the Catholic community but also from many other people.
"I hope the visit of the Holy Father will lead to a strengthening of ecumenical bonds and a development of good relationships with people of other faiths and all who are working for the common good."
"This occasion will culminate in the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman an outstanding person who exemplifies the meaning of pastoral care for all people flowing from a deep commitment to God, prayer and learning.
"Together with the other bishops of the UK I look forward to greeting the Holy Father when he comes to our countries."

“What on Earth has this got to do with Gloucestershire news? Am I being cynical, but would a lot more issues of the newspaper being purchased by Irish racegoers have anything to do with this?”

“I think Mr Lang needs to take a reality check if he thinks that "all who are working for the common good" offer welcomes to ludicrous superstitious bigots.”
