Gloucester dad's plea for return of his daughter's memories
A Gloucester dad is appealing for the return of his daughter's precious memories.

Amy
We experienced an upsetting theft in Gloucester town centre this Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday 29th august around 3pm, we as a family were in Gloucester city centre with our daughter Amy enjoying a coffee in Starbucks.
NEW PROMOTIONS put out each calender month! Dont miss out!
Terms: Terms and conditions are when order is complete in full 5% discount will be given with this voucher!
Contact: 01452 223149
Valid until: Sunday, June 30 2013
Around 3.10-3.15pm we finished our coffee and went into the eastgate street Three store to look at their latest products.
Whilst there, our 5 yr old daughter Amy accidently left her Ipod Touch 4g (a Christmas present from 2011) on one of the display cabinets.
We quickly realised that the her ipod was missing and within a few minutes dashed back to the Three store only to be told that no such item had been handed in.
Realising it was an opportunist thief, we quickly gave the details to the local second hand stores (cex, cashconvertors) and then promptly to the Police station to file an incident report.
The three store were extremely helpful and understanding, taking our details and agreeing to look over CCTV footage between 3.10 – 3.25pm Saturday.
An ipod can be replaced, but Amys precious childhood memories in the form of photos and video clips taken by her ipod cannot.
To the person who took this device, this was the look on our precious daughters face when she realised her Christmas gift was gone...
We hope that the person who took her ipod, will see this article and get in touch with either ourselves, the local police or the media.
Thank you for reading...
Regards,
Graham Carter

“These parents use their heads!
I think that is the punchline Leighlane to the whole topic!
Agree with all your post.”

“I feel for this little girl who is no way at fault, she should not have an I pod at five - this makes her a target for vile theives who would not think twice about snatching it. She is majorly distressed because she has lost something precious (at her age she has no idea how to be responsible for such a valuable item) - The content on these things is not very age appropriate for five they can end up downloading all sorts from the free apps.
I don't think it is people being jealous - you can spend £200 on the lastest toy for christmas but it highly unlikely somebody will want to pinch the lastest sylvaian house. You can get little MP3s fro music and a cheap digital camera for pictures.
If the parents had used there heads they would have backed it up and taken the security measures Apple has put in place to render them useless to theives.”

“cdotd - you have fallen in your own trap by commenting on the comments and commentators rather than on the report. Wake up - learn to think of the bigger picture and lessons for the public to learn what not to do under similar circumstances.”

“Cutting through the pros and cons of giving children ipods or iphones, and appealing to the heart strings of the finder to return precious childhood memories - given the numbers of child-abductors on the look out for likely targets, should this child, names and the story of her ipod/her attachment to it, etc, been given the publicity she has got complete with photo.
Couldn't Mr Carter simply posted a note giving the salient facts of the loss rather than spread the emotional slant and much details of his daughter's attachments, etc together with a photo - now he needs to brush up on basic security precautions and safeguarding the identity of his child.”

“Anyway, the first sentence in my first post was saying that I hoped he got it back. My opinions have not changed, I do still hope she gets it back.”

“What a load of horrible and pointless comments on here, honslknjklyt being the biggest culprit. This artilce was in the paper to try and get a 5 year old girl her prized possesion back.
I'm sure she had her comfort hug as her parents seem brilliant to me that they would go to this much effort to get the ipod pictures returned. They mention visiting the 2nd hand shops to report details then to the police station and this reminds me of something my caring parents would do. I remember one wasted afternoon for me and my parents walking back in to town and a visit to the police station trying to find a chain I had lost in town that was of sentimental value.
As for those that mention a 5 year old shouldn't have an Ipod need to understand things change and they just sound jealous to me that her parents could afford a nice gift. Its not this girls fault if all you had to play with at Christmas was your dads winky. Also I would like to point out that Graham has not complained about the cost of losing the ipod so maybe he can afford a new one maybe he can't but he is going to all this effort to return the photos to his daughter.
Graham, I wish you the best of luck on getting back the ipod and Amy is lucky to have such a great Dad. The fact you have not responded to all these idiotic comments show how respectable you are.
Andy”
