Gloucester deal puts flexible working at the heart of civic life
Regus business centre will share space with Gloucester City Council Gloucester City Council has partnered with Regus to bring flexible working to Gloucester. As a result, people around the South-West and the West Midlands could gain from more convenient ways to work, and the UK's growing number of flexible and mobile workers will be able to operate more productively. Firms will also have greater flexibility to explore business opportunities in the region.
Under the new arrangement with the Council, Regus is to open a business centre at North Warehouse at The Docks in Gloucester. As well as offering touch-down workspaces for mobile workers, who can drop in for as little as ten minutes to check emails and print documents, meet customers or access business support; the Regus business centre at The Docks will give Gloucester residents the option to work closer to home. Instead of commuting to other towns and cities, they'll be able to access a professional working environment on their doorstep, using mobile and internet technology to connect with their offices.
The agreement between the Council and Regus puts flexible working at the very heart of civic and community life. Regus will take over the ground and two other floors of the building, while Gloucester City Council will retain the use of the top floor for civic meetings and ceremonial occasions. City Council staff will continue to work at its main complex in the Herbert, Kimberley and Phillpott warehouses.
According to Steve Purdey, UK Managing Director at Regus, "This rapidly growing trend for flexible working and flexible workspaces can inject new life into communities like Gloucester. By working near home instead of commuting, people gain time, use local amenities, and achieve a better fit between work and family life. Workers, employers and communities all benefit as a result."
